Los Sentidos / The Senses

Would you be surprised to learn that our eyes do not actually see and that our ears do not hear? The sense organs provide only the beginning of sensations which must be completed by the brain. Yet the brain itself cannot respond directly to light, sound waves, odors and tastes. How then does it get the message? The answer is: Through the specialized sensory receptors for each sense.

Vista. Related to the Perception Sense

Oido / Hearing

Muy relacionado con Los Sentidos de Orientación Espacial / Related to the Spacial Orientation Senses

Olfato... / Smell...

...y Gusto / ...and Taste

The primary taste sensations are: Sweet, Salty, Sour, Bitter, and Umami (From a Japanese word for delicious. The umami taste was discovered by the Japanese chemist Kikunae Ikeda).

/The cinesthetic sense, or Kinesthetic, provides information on the position of body parts in relation to others, and the movement of the whole body or parts. The sensory receptors of this system are in the joints, ligaments and muscles.

The Vestibular Sense detects movement and provides information about the body's orientation in space. Sensory receptors in the semicircular canals and the vestibular sacs sense changes in motion and the orientation of the head.

The Gestalt principles of perceptual organization include: Figure-ground, Similarity, Proximity, Continuity and Closure.

The Sense of Perception allows us to capture aspects such as shadows, depth, shape and proximity of the images that the eye transmits to the brain.

Tambien nos ayuda a detectar imagenes ambigüas o engañosas. / It also helps us detect ambiguous or misleading images.
